About
The Rocabella residencies open their doors for the third consecutive year starting November 2026 for three sessions until April 2027.
THE PROJECT
The Rocabella Sculpture Residency, organized and led by the Art uP! association, brings together a group of four artists per session with diverse backgrounds, without age or nationality restrictions. It gathers them at the Rocabella site for six to seven weeks. The working languages will be French and English. In addition to the quality of their application, selected candidates must demonstrate their ability to interact and collaborate with the group. Professional sculpture practice (primarily modeling) is required, with no constraints on academic background.
After exploring the theme "Land's Edge, Sea's Edge," and then "Guardians of the Sea," artists are invited to delve into their interpretation of "The Call of the Open Sea."
The ceramic artists' creations will be exhibited outdoors during a presentation at the Rocabella estate in April/May 2027. Projects must therefore take this technical constraint into account.
RESIDENCY CONDITIONS
The residency conditions are as follows:
- a shared workshop of approximately 200 m2
- access to a shared 300-liter, high-temperature kiln.
- a comfortable room with full board 7 days a week
- travel and material allowances of 1000 euros
- an artist's grant of 2000 euros paid at the end of the residency.
SESSION DATES
- Session 1: Monday, November 2 to Friday, December 18, 2026
- Session 2: Monday, January 4 to Friday, February 19, 2027
- Session 3: Monday, March 1 to Friday, April 9, 2027
- Proposed exhibition dates (to be reconfirmed): April 15 to 19 inclusive
APPLICATION
Selection based on application materials, followed by a jury interview.

- an approximately one-minute video where you tell us about yourself and your work
- portfolio (20 pages maximum)
- a letter of recommendation (gallery, institution, teacher)
- a letter of intent on the residency theme.

What is the duration of the residency?
Depending on the themes, a residency can last from one week to several months, which gives participants enough time to immerse themselves in the environment and carry out their projects successfully.
Who can participate in a residency?
The residency is open to artists and researchers aged 21 and over and of all levels of experience. Priority is given to those who wish to exchange with their peers or with other creatives from other disciplines. The selection is based on an application file, which includes a project proposal, a portfolio and a statement of interest. A panel of competent experts reviews all applications.
Are there any costs associated with the residence?
All essential expenses are covered: accommodation, full board, housekeeping, consumables, round-trip transportation, as well as access to shared tools and spaces required for collective projects. Residents remain responsible for their personal expenses and any specific costs related to their individual projects. An artistic grant is also awarded to support each residency.
Does the residency include coaching or mentoring?
Each residence is specific. Depending on the themes, participants can have access to personalized coaching and mentoring from renowned experts in their field. Storytelling and pitch training workshops are also often included in programs to help residents better value their work.
Are international applications welcomed?
We welcome applications from around the world for a portion of our residencies. The diversity of perspectives is highly valued in our program and the common language is English.

Are-the residents alone on site ?
During the winter residency periods, Rocabella focuses on its artist-in-residence program.
What is a creative residency in La Rocabella?
Artistic residencies are periods during which artists and creators come to work on their projects around a specific theme. Residents are supervised by a specialist mentor and can benefit from advice from professional artists or specialists to enrich their creative activity.
