Bio

Héloïse Laïla Lagarde is a young visual artist, ceramist, singer, composer and performer.

Residency project

Through this residency, Héloïse Laïla Lagarde wishes to continue her research on an “original nomadism”, a way of being in the world based on movement, observation and listening. She is interested in the sea as a shifting territory, where landmarks constantly change and where one must learn to find one’s way differently.

At Villa Rocabella, she sees the coastline as a field of experimentation, exploring the sounds of the shore, the waves, the winds and the natural resonances of the landscape. She particularly wishes to examine the relationship between voice and wind: how does the wind transform the perception of a melody, scatter it, blur it until it becomes almost inaudible? The wind then becomes a vector of sonic displacement, carrying the voice toward an elusive elsewhere.

This research continues through ceramic work, with the creation of sculptures conceived as sounding bodies: cavities, hollow forms and objects to blow into, to sing into or to make vibrate. Inspired by the coastal reliefs and natural acoustic phenomena, these forms seek to gather, transform or extend the vibrations of their environment.

Between land and sea, the stillness of sculpture and the movement of the body, she explores a form of sculptural and vocal nomadism. It is not about representing the open sea, but about creating objects that make it possible to experience it, to temporarily inhabit a place through listening and to imagine other ways of being in the world.
