Vincent Jondeau

Bio

Filmmaker, artist, and archivist based in Berlin, Vincent Jondeau explores the invisible layers of memory and the living world. With a background in humanities and a dual master's degree in media arts, he refined his mastery of the image at the Ostkreuzschule in Berlin. His dual role as creator and conservator (notably for the Wim Wenders and Alfred Ehrhardt foundations) gives him a unique perspective: he does not merely seek to capture a result, but to document the trajectory of a thought.

Co-founder of the production company Cinema Povera, his work has been recognized in prestigious settings such as Berlin Science Week 2025 and the Biennale Photo de Mulhouse. A specialist in ecological narratives and interdisciplinary collaborations, Vincent Jondeau strives to film what often escapes the eye: doubt, research, and the evolution of an artistic approach. For him, the archive is not a trace of the past, but a living material that reveals how a work takes root in a territory and an era.

Residency project

For his residency at Rocabella, Vincent Jondeau carries an ambitious 'meta-documentary' project. Far from a simple behind-the-scenes film, this is a cinematic work dedicated to analyzing the artistic process within the Rocabella residencies. Vincent uses his camera as a tool for anthropological observation to capture the genesis of projects led by fellow residents, transforming the 'making-of' into a genuine reflection on the act of creating.

His work revolves around several axes. The archaeology of gesture: documenting the research phases, the tentative explorations, and the flashes of inspiration of artists within the singular setting of the Riviera. The dialogue with place: analyzing how Rocabella's neoclassical architecture and coastal environment influence, alter, or stimulate the creative process. The narration of the residency: creating a documentary object that bears witness to the collective synergy, while questioning the purpose of art in a changing world.

By archiving the life of the residency in this way, Vincent Jondeau does not simply film artists at work; he creates a living archive of Rocabella's collective intelligence. This documentary film will become the memorial foundation of the residency, offering an analytical and poetic perspective on how an idea becomes a work of art in contact with an exceptional place.
