Odetta Imperialie
Bio
Born in 1989 in Odessa into a family of musicians, Odetta Imperialie is a soprano and vocal coach whose voice carries the cultural heritage of the 'Pearl of the Black Sea.' A child prodigy, she took to the stage of the Odessa Opera at a young age, performing in masterpieces such as Puccini's Tosca and Bizet's Carmen. A graduate of the Odessa National Music Academy in 2016, she established herself as a soloist at the Philharmonic and the Salik Theatre, while becoming a central figure in music education at Ukraine's Music Hub.
A laureate of prestigious international competitions (Vissi d'Arte, Ohrid), she has shone on world stages, notably performing Musetta in La Bohème in Berlin. Beyond her virtuosity, she serves as a cultural ambassador for her hometown within international delegations. Her journey took a decisive turn in December 2022 when she joined the Atelier des Artistes en Exil in Marseille. Today, this committed artist continues to champion the Slavic and European lyric repertoire, blending impeccable technique with a sensitivity forged by the trials of history.
Residency project
Odetta Imperialie's residency project at Rocabella is conceived as a poetic and sonic exploration of the concept of 'inner homeland.' Within the majestic setting of this estate overlooking the Mediterranean, the singer seeks to build a bridge between the waters of her childhood—the Black Sea—and the azure horizon of the Riviera. This stay is dedicated to creating an original recital blending classical opera arias with traditional Ukrainian songs rearranged for a contemporary resonance.
Taking advantage of the unique acoustics of the villas and the serenity of the Mediterranean gardens, Odetta will work on the emotional power of the voice as a vehicle for resilience. The residency will also serve as a laboratory for her pedagogical research: how do the natural environment and the light of the Côte d'Azur influence breath and the texture of lyric singing? By immersing herself in the spirit of the place, she intends to transform Rocabella into a sanctuary of creation where exile becomes a universal dialogue. This project will culminate in an immersive performance, offering listeners a sensory journey where technical virtuosity serves a message of hope and cultural fraternity.
