Leo Rattez

Based in Brittany, Léo Rattez is an independent videographer and photographer whose work sits at the crossroads of sport, adventure, and poetry. Holding a Master's degree in STAPS (Sport & Humanities in Europe), he has built his artistic identity close to the ground, particularly through board sports. A former ski and surf technician and long-distance traveler who journeyed from France to Indonesia without flying, he draws from his experiences a technical and human approach nourished by authenticity.

Director, cinematographer, and editor, Léo favors sensitive narratives rooted in reality. For him, the image should not merely show a result, but tell the journey: the momentum, the doubt, the fatigue, and the joy. His expertise, forged in the service of surf schools and brands like Terry Surfboards and Chasing Adventure, unfolds with intuition and rigor. His quest is for a timeless light capable of giving a second life to lived moments. By blending impactful storytelling with great visual sensitivity, he transforms each documentary or institutional project into a captivating work that places lived experience at the heart of the frame.

Léo Rattez's residency project at Rocabella marks a desire to capture the invisible within the creative process. Moving away from his usual Breton landscapes, he comes to confront his gaze with the azure light to explore the notion of creative momentum. His goal is to produce an experimental and documentary film that documents the lives of artists in residence, not through their finished works, but through the physicality of their labor.

Inspired by his practice as a board sports videographer, Léo aims to film the engagement of bodies: the precise movement of a hand on a canvas, the tension of a face deep in writing, or the breath of a musician facing the sea. At Rocabella, he seeks to immortalize those fragile 'moments of life' where matter transforms. This project aims to pay tribute to the discipline and passion that drive the estate's residents. Using the majestic settings of the estate—between hanging gardens and Mediterranean shore—as emotional catalysts, Léo Rattez aspires to create a poetic narrative where doubt and effort become noble cinematic materials, revealing the silent beauty of creation in the making.
