Jules Naleb

Bio

Based in Angoulême, Jules Naleb (born Jules Boulain-Adenis) is an illustrator and comic book artist who has established himself as one of the most unique voices in contemporary science fiction. His universe, deeply rooted in Solarpunk and Low-tech movements, explores civilizational resilience through the lens of nature and archaeology. With his graphic novel Aeon 6, he captivated readers by depicting a desert future where the exploration of ancient ruins becomes a universal quest for meaning.

Jules Naleb's talent extends into the world of international animation, where he has collaborated on cult productions such as Scavengers Reign and the anthology Love, Death & Robots. His work is distinguished by a meticulous attention to organic structures and vestiges of the past, which he reimagines with surgical precision. Fascinated by ancient civilizations, he builds narratives where technology remains discreet, making room for a rediscovered harmony between humanity and its environment. Between contemplation and adventure, Jules Naleb shapes worlds where every remnant tells a story of survival and hope.

Residency project

For his residency at Rocabella, Jules Naleb proposes a graphic immersion titled 'Future Archaeologies.' Moving away from the arid landscapes of Aeon 6, he intends to confront his Solarpunk imagination with the lushness and neo-classical rigor of the estate. His goal is to transform the domain into a theater of speculative science fiction, where the architecture of the villas and the ecosystem of the Mediterranean gardens become the vestiges of a future civilization seeking symbiosis.

The project involves developing a narrative logbook and comic strips exploring a scenario where Rocabella acts as a Low-tech sanctuary. Jules wishes to use the estate's structures—colonnades, greenhouses, and hanging gardens—to imagine how a future society might reinvest in this heritage through soft and sustainable technologies. Taking advantage of the coastline's unique light, he will work on compositions where vegetation reclaims its rights over stone, creating a visual dialogue between the splendor of yesterday and the utopia of tomorrow. At Rocabella, Jules Naleb is not just writing fiction; he is mapping out a possible future where Mediterranean elegance becomes the foundation for a new era of serenity and balance.
