Jeremie Jung

Bio

Documentary photographer and photojournalist Jérémie Jung dedicates his lens to cultural margins and zones of geopolitical tension, with a marked preference for the Baltic region. A graduate of the Strasbourg Faculty of Visual Arts and trained at EMI-CFD, he joined the Signatures agency in 2013. His work, praised for its anthropological depth, gained international recognition through long-term investigations into the Estonian island of Kihnu and the Seto culture.

Winner of the ANI-PixTrakk award at the Visa pour l'Image festival in 2017, Jérémie Jung has seen his work exhibited in prestigious institutions: from the Rencontres d'Arles to the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Albert-Kahn. In 2018, he published his first book, Au Large du Temps, a synthesis of his research on Estonian identities. Whether documenting the Russian-Estonian borders or insular traditions, he strives to capture the imperceptible: those moments where personal history collides with the broader scope of History. His approach, both rigorous and poetic, transforms every report into a sensitive archive of belonging and resilience.

Residency project

For his residency at Rocabella, Jérémie Jung proposes a project titled 'L'Entre-deux Mers' (Between Two Seas). Accustomed to the harsh climates and identities of the Baltic, he brings his lens to the solar light of the Riviera to explore the concept of a 'maritime sanctuary.' While his previous works dealt with the geopolitical borders of the North, he now intends to question the invisible boundary separating the exclusivity of the Rocabella estate from the public vastness of the Mediterranean.

The project involves documenting coastal life as a space of transition. Jérémie plans to capture the dialogue between the villas' neo-classical architecture—symbols of permanence—and the sea's perpetual movement. Drawing on his experience with island communities, he will seek to capture the faces and gestures of those who inhabit this shore, balancing historical heritage with contemporary preservation challenges. At Rocabella, Jérémie Jung does not simply photograph a postcard landscape; he seeks to reveal the substance of an exceptional territory, making this Azure stopover a new chapter in his reflection on European coastal identity.
