Isabelle Siac
Bio
A clinical psychologist practicing in Paris, Isabelle Siac has led a dual career as an author and screenwriter for fifteen years, where clinical observation feeds narrative precision. Her body of work, comprising novels and essays, explores the mechanisms of power and the social constructions of identity. In her novel Des ambitieux (2010), she was already dissecting intergenerational power games within multinational corporations.
A specialist in the deconstruction of representations, she tackles the roots of patriarchy in her acclaimed essay En finir avec l'hystérie (prétendument) féminine (2023), where she frees this pathology from gender clichés. Her recent work within the 'Mythes au Féminin' collection (Éditions Reconnaissance) marks a major turning point: she gives voice to silent archetypes. From female rivalry orchestrated by men in La belle-mère de Blanche Neige (2024) to masculine vulnerability hidden behind the mask of Prince Charming (2025), Isabelle Siac interrogates the 'reverse shot' of fairy tales. By blending psychoanalysis and dramaturgy, she establishes herself as an essential voice for understanding how yesterday's narratives continue to shape our contemporary psyches.
Residency project
For her residency at Rocabella, Isabelle Siac proposes a hybrid creative project entitled 'Le Contre-Champ des Mythes' (The Reverse Shot of Myths). Drawing inspiration from the majestic setting of the Riviera villas and the Mediterranean horizon, she aims to transform this stay into a screenwriting laboratory. The objective is to adapt her research on fairy tale archetypes into a serial audiovisual format, exploring the inner lives of so-called 'secondary' or 'evil' characters.
In the serenity of the estate's gardens, Isabelle Siac will work on depth psychology applied to fiction. How can the light and seclusion of Rocabella help lift the veil on the unspoken truths of the Witch-Queen or the doubts of a Prince in search of identity? The residency will be the stage for a dialogue between her practice as a psychologist and her art as a screenwriter: the aim is to structure narratives where one no longer merely watches the action, but finally understands the hidden motivations. This project aims to produce a series pilot that deconstructs the traditional male gaze of fairy tales to offer a more complex, humane, and nuanced vision of power dynamics and desire.
