Constantin Zamfiresco

Bio

A multifaceted artist, Constantin Zamfiresco moves with ease between the demanding worlds of animation and comics. With sharp technical expertise as a Background Artist and color decorator, he has collaborated with renowned studios such as SUPERPROD, Dada! Animation, and GO-N Productions. His ability to build immersive visual worlds also led him to share his knowledge as a teacher at the Atelier de Sèvres, a leading school for visual arts professions.

The year 2025 marks a major turning point in his career with his entry into the catalogue of Les Humanoïdes Associés. As a comics author, he carries forward the legacy of science fiction and fantasy, notably through his acclaimed contribution to the Métal Hurlant mook in 2026. His artistic signature lies in meticulous work on setting and atmosphere: for Constantin, the environment is never a mere backdrop but a driving character in the narrative. Between structural rigor and bold chromatic explorations, he probes the boundary between tangible reality and visual speculation, establishing himself as one of the most promising talents on the current graphic arts scene.

Residency project

For his residency at Rocabella, Constantin Zamfiresco proposes an in situ creative approach aimed at transforming the architectural elegance of the estate into graphic narrative material. Drawing on his eye as an animation background artist, he plans to use the neoclassical villas and lush gardens of the domain as the primary setting for a new comics project destined for Les Humanoïdes Associés.

The challenge of this stay is to capture the distinctive light of the Côte d'Azur and weave it into a speculative fiction narrative. Constantin intends to explore the contrast between the serenity of Mediterranean panoramas and the dark or technological themes characteristic of the Métal Hurlant universe. Sketching sessions in the gardens and facing the sea will form the basis of digital colorization work seeking to transcribe the vibration of the azure and the cast shadows of umbrella pines.

This residency is conceived as a laboratory for landscape 'staging': the aim is to see how the aesthetics of luxury and wild nature can become the theatre of a powerful speculative fiction. By fusing the spirit of Rocabella with the codes of the ninth art, Constantin Zamfiresco aspires to create pages where the beauty of the place becomes the catalyst for an unprecedented futuristic imaginary.
