Clémence Guilin

Bio

Born in Lons-le-Saunier in 1993, Clémence Guillin is a director whose work sits at the intersection of scientific research and artistic creation. Holding a dual Master's degree in anthropology and audiovisual anthropology, she first explored themes of migration before developing a passion for the anthropology of dance. It is this relationship to the body and movement that naturally led her to documentary filmmaking.

An active member of the La Première Fois festival in Marseille for five years, she champions a sensitive and immersive approach to reality. Her filmography, marked by works such as Chrysogone (2019) and the feature-length Quand le poisson sort de l'eau (2020), demonstrates her ability to capture the intimate and the political. Over the past two years, Clémence has expanded her practice to sound creation. Close to the Field Recording movement, she experiments with new forms of acoustic storytelling, convinced that sound is as powerful a vehicle for understanding the world as the image. Her hybrid background makes her an attentive observer of human vibrations and shifting landscapes.

Residency project

Clémence Guillin's residency project at Rocabella revolves around a sensory and sonic exploration of the estate. Temporarily setting aside the camera, she plans to use this stay to compose an immersive sound archive of the domain, blending Field Recording with life stories. For this trained anthropologist, Rocabella is not merely a majestic setting—it is a living ecosystem where the Mediterranean surf and the whisper of the gardens converse.

The goal is to capture the 'acoustic imprint' of the place: the rustling of umbrella pines, the whistling of the wind through the villa balustrades, and the testimonies of those who make the estate's heart beat. Clémence plans to create a sound trail that invites residents and visitors into deep listening, transforming their perception of the space. By applying her anthropological research methods to sound creation, she seeks to document how people inhabit this exceptional landscape. At Rocabella, Clémence Guillin does not simply record sounds; she composes an invisible narrative where the memory of the coastline and the poetry of the moment converge to offer an unprecedented sensory experience.
