Caroline Peron
Bio
Born in 1996, Caroline Péron is an illustrator and graphic novel author whose work celebrates the world's vibration. A graduate of ENSAD Paris and trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she has developed a unique visual signature based on the use of colored pencils. Through the meticulous layering of chromatic coats, she creates luminous atmospheres of rare depth, where color seems to throb on the paper.
Her international reputation has led her to collaborate with prestigious institutions and brands such as Hermès, the New York Times, and the New Yorker. A winner of the Jeunes Talents prize in Angoulême (2018), she passionately explores themes of sport and the body in motion, as seen in her books Sur les vagues (Actes Sud, 2026) and Césure (Nathan, 2024). Exhibited from New York to Chengdu, Caroline Péron captures the essence of suspended moments. Her line, both sensitive and vibrant, transforms the everyday into a luminous fresco, making her one of the most poetic voices in contemporary illustration.
Residency project
For her residency at Rocabella, Caroline Péron immerses herself in the 'Guardians of the Sea' project. Continuing her research on water and movement, she aims to translate the dreamlike and powerful world of female free-diving into images. The Rocabella estate, with its azure light and sweeping Mediterranean perspectives, serves as an immense open-air sketchbook for her.
The project focuses on three axes. Visual storytelling: creating a series of illustrations and comic strips telling the physical bond between the coastal guardians and their liquid environment. Chromatic exploration: using the colored pencil technique to capture the changing reflections of the water and the transparency of the deep, creating a 'luminous memory' of the estate. Atmospheric painting: producing large-format works where the swimmers' bodies merge with the Rocabella landscape, between lush gardens and wild shores.
Through this work, Caroline Péron aspires to fix the poetry of the gesture and the serenity of the seabed, offering a vibrant and protective vision of the Mediterranean within this exceptional sanctuary.
