"Call of the Sea": applications for the 2026–2027 artistic residencies are now open

Following "Guardians of the Sea," Rocabella Residencies continue their dialogue between art and environment. For the 2026–2027 season, they are themed "Call of the Sea" and are opening their call for applications today.

The open sea is the horizon line that beckons departure: the moment one leaves the safety of the shore to venture into the unknown. Transposed to creation, this movement takes on a unique significance — to create is also to set sail, to accept losing one's footing, to let oneself be carried by a current that isn't entirely controlled. Facing the Mediterranean, Rocabella offers a guiding thread rather than a rigid framework; it's up to each resident to find a unique echo, an inspiration, a narrative, or a drift within it. From November 2026 to April 2027, the estate will host artists and authors from France and beyond, across eight residencies united under the same theme. These will unfold over three two-month sessions — from November 2 to December 18, 2026; January 4 to February 19, 2027; and March 1 to April 9, 2027 — designed as periods of immersion, experimentation, and exchange. True to the spirit of the place, disciplines coexist and interact: ceramic sculpture, comic strips, painting, instrumental and vocal music, musical composition, poetry, documentary portraiture, and documentary art books.

Across all disciplines, the season offers each selected artist a period of training and exchange focused on artificial intelligence. This is not presented as an obligation, but as a space for discovery: to test its possibilities and limits, and to freely decide the role (or non-role) one wishes to give it in their own practice. Residents are accommodated on the estate, facing the sea, in individual rooms with full board, a dedicated studio, remuneration, and coverage of consumables according to the specific terms of each residency. Selection is based on application files, followed by an interview. The entire season will culminate in a public presentation at Rocabella in spring 2027. Applications have been open since June 24, 2026, and interviews will take place in September and October.
